So I was looking for a project and thought this game would be a good fit: I've been wanting to learn about applying patches to software to set their resolution above the original intended dimensions etc. I know there have been a bunch such patches for popular games like Fallout, Infinity Engine games, and so on, so I wanted to do something a little less well known. I've never played this game and didn't know what to expect, but within no time at all I had the game rendering a much bigger playfield than the 640x480 in the shipped version (see the screenshot attached). There seems to be some issue with it not filling the 1920x1080 window it's rendering to - maybe it's forcing an aspect ratio or something, 640x480 being a different aspect ratio to 1080p - but it looks like it'd be pretty easy to get it running happily at arbitrary resolutions.

I was just wondering if there would be much demand for such a patch. If so I can try to get this done for the world's enpleasurement! Let me know your thoughts, GOG! EDIT: For reference, I've attached a screenshot of the original, so you can see the difference this patch makes! I am not dead, and nor is this project!

I have revived it and hope to have something distributable in the next week. I even made a little blog post about it! I need to add some checking/validation to my code, as there are presumably different versions of the game for different territories, patch versions, etc, but it works so far for me. I don't have the GoG version, so I can't check that my patcher will work with this.

Would anyone be able to be post an MD5 hash of the Sntrm.exe from GoG, so I can see if it's the same one I have? If it is, my patch should just work.if not I might need to like.buy it again from GoG or something. Hi, I'm afraid your instructions may not be consistent. Extract `Sanitarium HD Patcher.exe` and `patches.json` to your Sanitarium game folder 2. Create a shortcut to ` Sanitarium HD Patcher.exe` 3.

Right click the shortcut - Properties 4. Add to the end of `Target`. `-x resolution width`. `-y resolution height`.

`- command line arguments to pass to Sanitarium`. e.g.: ` Sanitarium.exe -x 1920 -y 1080 - -w -e /skip`, for a 1080p game, windowed, with DirectDraw emulation enabled (recommended)/i If I create a shortcut to 'Sanitarium HD Patcher.exe', what is 'Sanitarium.exe' supposed to do/mean? Do I have to launch 'Sanitarium HD Patcher.exe', or sntrm.exe? If I launch 'Sanitarium HD Patcher.exe' via a self-created shorcut, a small window will pop up, and then disappear.

Nothing else. Yes the instructions are a bit confusing. It should say this. Extract `Sanitarium HD Patcher.exe` and `patches.json` to your Sanitarium game folder 2.

    2. Just curious, it seems before the patch some people had some issues with the game and after the patch suposed to fix pretty much everyone has issues with the game.

I received a message that this game work fine through the first chapter, but return to the desktop after loading of the second chapter.Received the follow.

Create a shortcut to `Sanitarium HD Patcher.exe` 3. Right click the shortcut - Properties 4. Add to the end of `Target`. `-x resolution width`. `-y resolution height`. `- command line arguments to pass to Sanitarium` So that the contents of the 'target' box read. 'C: GOG Games Sanitarium SanitariumHDPatcher.exe' -x 1920 -y 1080 - -w -e /skip.assuming the path is correct.

This will give you a 1080p game, windowed, with DirectDraw emulation enabled (recommended)/i However - the shortcut MUST be run in administrator mode, so click advanced and select that check box. The shortcut you made then launches the game with the new parameters. Retsushi: I just bought the game, should I use the HD resolution patch?

As for @Nirth, when I'm in the setup I get a slow cursor, but I didn't play the game, only check to see if it's working You should definitely try the patch. It's not optimal but far better than the original resolution.

As for slow cursor, I don't know what it is but I've a feeling it's connected with Windows 7 and DirectDraw because as I said it's a common issue for me with DD games ever since I got Windows 7. One of these days I'll just have to build an older computer and throw in XP and try my luck.

Didn't know if I should put this here or in the gaming section. I've spent the better part of two hours trying to find help with no luck, so I'm turning to various forums. I've got the game Sanitarium.

Everything works fine until I get to disk 2. So far, I've gotten three different errors. They are: 1-Cannot read Word Stats 2-SNTRM caused an exception c0000006H in module SNTRM.EXE at 018f:00431a3f 3-SNTRM caused an invalid page fault in module SNTRM.EXE at 018f:004327df The first error is the least of my concern since the game will continue if I choose to 'ignore' it, but then one of the other two errors comes up. I can't find ANY patches for this particular problem. The game developer sites aren't much help either since the one site (xsgames.biz) isn't finished.

The other company isn't even in business anymore. About the only thing I've found is that the game has problems running on XP, but I'm not using XP.

There's apparently a problem with one of the levels on disk one, but I didn't come across that. I can't find anything about my disk 2 problem. I'll list my system specs to the best of my ability, but I'm not sure about everything.

I'm using Windows 98 SE. I've got a Pentium 3 733 MGHZ processor. 28.6 gig hard drive. Samsung DVD-ROM SD-606F (I have no clue what speed it is. How do you find that out, anyway?) My display lists ATI Rage 128 Xpert 128 (whatever that is.) There's two listings for sound: SB AudioPCI 64V Legacy Device, and Sound Blaster AudioPCI 64V.

    Patch

I don't know what the difference is, but they're both listed in Device Manager. Also, don't know if this is important or not, I'm currently running with 92% resources free. The only background applications running are Explorer and systray. Since the two major errors seem to be with the EXE file, I'm thinking that reinstalling might fix it. The thing is, it doesn't give me an option to REinstall.

Just uninstall and install again. I really don't want to do that because I'd lose everything, but if it's the only way to fix my problem, I'll do it. I'd really, really, really appreciate any help.

Thanks and sorry for bursting in with this, but it's my last resort. Seems the publisher of this game is no longer in business. However, I was able to find a patch.

'During Chapter 2 you may get a lockup This is an actual issue with the game and is recommended that you get the patch to resolve this issue. Once this patch has been downloaded and installed you must restart a new game. You cannot continue from a saved game.' I've attached the patch to this post. Ok when I originally purchased this game I loved it although there were many patches to be downloaded, which I saved to disc, unfortunately we had a fire and lost everything we owned. Therefore, I found the game for a cheaper price then what I originally purchased it for ($60) now $10.

All is I want is the patch for level 2 'the cave', I was able to create the fire, I can't get in the water, please help me, I just want to know where to get the patch to get through this. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
