As an adult continuing education student I find a lot of this book painful. Using a mind map to somehow flesh out my life when I'm used to using them for brainstorming and book ideas feels very alien.

Generally, if a student can't explain what their degree is in, there was a mistake made well before this book came into the picture. The articles are entertaining, but an entire section on metaphor and the use of metaphor has me wondering how anyone can effectively learn how to use metaphor from a book. Not the worst book I've ever had to use for a class, but certainly not the best.
I am reading this for the Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS) course I am developing. It has about 40 pages of unique text at the beginning and then is filled with articles to apply to the concepts. I suppose this would be good for those afraid of the library, or for a few years back when library research was best left to librarians, research assistants, and journal authors. However, in the world where EBSCOhost, ProQuest, Sage, and Gale are all online, the bulk of the need for this text is now moot I am reading this for the Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS) course I am developing.
